Allscripts Healthcare Solutions

Creating mobile electronic health records for medical professionals

UX Designer
March 2012 - August 2014

Allscripts creates multi-platform products that enable healthcare institutions - doctors, nurses, administrators, and more - to perform tasks such as accessing and editing patients' health records, generate bills, track trends in patients' health, and more in a wide variety of settings. With the rise of smartphones, Allscripts was eager to leverage this technology and create products that could be used on the go using user centered design processes.

I was a UX designer and researcher for the Allscripts User Experience team working on mobile products. I was dedicated to a few core products while also consulting part time for several teams across the company as time permitted, giving me access to a wide variety of projects and initiatives related to mobile at Allscripts. My project work included design documentation, wireframing, visual design QA, ethnographic research, and usability testing.

Homecare for iPad

A mobile version of Allscripts' Homecare product for homecare nurses in the field

UX Researcher and Designer
2013

Design Question: Can nurses use a mobile device that effectively replaces their desktops but won’t impede them from focusing on patient care?

The UX team worked with the Allscripts Homecare team to build an iPad application that could serve as a replacement for the desktop product for homecare nurses.

I was part of a group of 3-4 designers playing multiple roles, starting as a user researcher helping to conduct ethnographic studies around homecare nursing in order to understand the tools and tasks they currently use.

Once the research was completed, I switched to the design phase developing workflows around key tasks and general interaction patterns for the overall application. I worked with the other designers in a cross functional team, including engineers and product managers, to design and test the alpha version of the product.
